A typical Cotswold cottage garden, Sue and her husband bought the property in 1991 and have created the garden to give structure during the winter with box, yew and standards of ligustrum planted in 1999.In 2002 a rose archway was created to separate more formal garden around the cottage from a mature orchard, which is under planted with a sea of snowdrops, followed by daffodils, bluebells, fritillaries, martagon lilies, orchids and camassia. A bothy was added as a woodland folly in 2008, which was initially featured in A Highland Retreat garden Chelsea 2006, it is under planted with trilliums, hosta, digitalis lutea, hellebores and ferns. The garden was inspired by the white garden at Vita Sackville-West's Sissinghurst and the fabulous garden created by the late Rosemary Verey at nearby Barnsley House. Sue is very fortunate to now be gardening for her son Charles Verey & his wife. Sue's garden has been open for the National Garden Scheme in 2003, 2004 & 2008. Also for the Royal British Legion. |
