A Wiltshire Knot Garden

I was approached in 2007 to create a knot garden for a Homeopath and her husband, which is a project I have always longed for. The garden is 12 metres x 12 metres running along the rear of the house where the lawn once was. Drainage is an issue on the site, so we first had to improve drainage and introduce 144 tonnes of top soil and compost.

A lawned path in the shape of the St. Andrew's cross was to be used in order to stroll through the wonderfully scented garden which incorporates old fashioned roses, two varieties of box hedging and Germander which was used in Elizabethan knot gardens. Herbs such as Sage, Chives and Rosemary are used alongside Bay standards. Artemisia, Santolina, Lavender and Nepeta and lots of tulips for spring colour.

We have been maintaining the garden since it's completion and are working on other area's of this 5 acre garden
