Since coming to this cottage almost 20 years ago, the garden has been brought back to life. It has been a gradual process repossessing areas from what had become a complete wilderness of overgrown plants and long grass, culminating in bringing the different areas of the garden together with paths and steps. Each area has its own name, including the Cat Walk, Shaded Garden, Croquet Lawn, Cottage Garden, the Orchard and the Tudor Garden!. In 2008, Sue joined our team and has made a terrific difference with her thoughtful advice and hands-on creations. The site of the cottage is on a side of a valley and fairly steep in parts. In the front of the house there was a sloping crazy paved area which was a concern. In the first place was not very attractive and more importantly dangerously slippery in wet weather. I asked Sue to come up with ideas for a knot garden, she came back with three or four designs and I immediately chose her Tudor Rose design, as it was very much in keeping with the XVI century building it would front. Within less than three years it looks mature and is a much admired talking point for visitors. Heather Brown |
